The maximum distance Type MI (Mineral Insulated) cable can be supported and secured apart is indeed 6 feet. This requirement is based on the National Electrical Code (NEC) provisions, which outline the proper installation methods for various types of electrical wiring to ensure safety and reliability.

The specification for Type MI cable supporting distance is crucial as it helps to prevent mechanical stress that could potentially lead to damage over time. By limiting the spacing to 6 feet, it ensures that the cable is adequately supported, minimizing the chances of sagging and protecting the conductors within from potential wear and tear, as well as external environmental factors.

Understanding the significance of proper support and securing spacing is important for maintaining system integrity and ensuring compliance with safety codes, which is fundamental for any journeyman electrician.
